The twin black & white portraits of Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs 2011 (white), originally uploaded by tsevis.

Steve Jobs 2011 (black)

These are my latest twin portraits of Steve Jobs. I created them for Panorama, Italy's Number 1 weekly magazine. The creative director of the magazine requested a 'white on white' portrait where Steve Jobs was to be illustrated with all of Apple's white products. I created the mosaic but then became curious with what a black version would look like. The Panorama team included the initial portrait on the latest cover of the the financial section of the magazine - Panorama Economy.
I'm not really sure which of the two I prefer but i'll probably print them both, one next to the other, for my office...

This is the actual cover of Panorama Economy

Aloha from Hawaii

Aloha from Hawaii, originally uploaded by tsevis.

An experimental generative artwork made just for fun. I have based this piece on a photo of a Hawaiian girl. Hawaii is the base of Synthetik, the developers of my beloved Studio Artist. Recently Joe Dalton has featured this photostream on the Studio Artist blog. I couldn't do nothing less than dedicate this piece to him and his great team.

Made (of course) with Synthetik Studio Artist and the Adobe Creative Suite using custom developed scripts and hacks.

Typeface used is PF Encore an awarded Opentype font designed by my friend Panos Vassiliou. You can buy the font on Parachute Fonts shop or on MyFonts.

Ronaldinho: Brazil 2010 (2)

Ronaldinho: Brazil 2010 (2), originally uploaded by tsevis.

Subject, Inspiration:
Experimental mosaic illustration and poster for the Brazilian national football team and the talented footballer Ronaldo de Assis Moreira aka Ronaldinho.
Inspired by the Brazilian flag and of course by the Brazilian national team. I may be a devoted fan of Italy and USA but I have to admit that these Brazilian guys are not playing. They are dancing!

Pattern, Grid:
I am still experimenting with the African inspired patterns. I am trying to simplify the patterns in order to produce a more international and more contemporary style.

Colors:
The color set includes 3+3 spot colors. The first three are the colors of the flag and I also have used three intermediate tones.

Software, Technique:
Made with custom developed scripts and techniques in Synthetik Studio Artist, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Apple QuickTime Pro.

Credits, Licenses:

Djibril Cissé: Panathinaikos 2009-2010

I have created this mosaic portrait of Djibril Cissé last August. I was quite optimistic about this talented football player and the role he could play in my favorite team, Panathinaikos FC (Athens). But I could never imagine that he would have scored so many goals and he could lead Panathinaikos to the top.
Yesterday he scored twice and Panathinaikos won against AC Roma in Rome for Europa Cup. So, thanks a lot, Djibril! You are great!
Hope you are gonna be recalled to represent France to the World Cup 2010 finals in South Africa. I am not a fan of the "tricolor" team but you surely deserve a place there.

This mosaic illustration is made with custom techniques and scripts in Synthetic Studio Artist, Adobe Photoshop and Apple QuickTime.

Design Walk 2010: Analog VS digital

This is a mosaic illustration made in collaboration with my friends at the Indyvisual Design Collective. These good fellas asked me to play with them on the subject "analog VS digital". They have been given this subject by Double Decker, curators of the Design Walk 2010.
The idea of Petros Voulgaris, Costas Vassilakis, Stavros Georgakopoulos, Christos Kourtoglou and Giorgos Chandrinos was to create a digital mosaic and then they would reconstruct it in an analog mode.
We chose to use the eyes from the poster of the Mathieu Kassovitz's "La Heine" movie. My friends are thinking that the film is not only a great classic but it's also expressing a period that our country is also living lately.
To provide a revolutionary response to this social mess we chose to use some leftist or military clichés like the star or the thunder but enrich them with floppies and scissors that are symbols of digital and analog creativity. The Black-Red-Yellow colors are not used only because we wanted to incorporate another cliché. These are the actual colors of the Indyvisuals' working space. (I think this guys are supporting a yellow soccer team or something... :-))

You can watch the making of the analog version of the mosaic.
